About us

EIC is an independent advisory firm and project developer focused on the energy infrastructure sector, conducting advisory mandates with clients on strategic and financial business decisions.

Our team combines more than one hundred years of experience in the energy sector and has both an industrial and financial background. Projects led or developed by the EIC team are known as milestone projects in the industry due to their goal-oriented and entrepreneurial approach. For the successful navigation through investments and developments in today’s energy sector, we are a competent and reliable partner.

  • EIC professionals develop projects with an owner’s perspective. This ensures that development capex is well budgeted and cautiously spent, and that the relevant risk situation of the project is mapped, risk mitigants defined, and the return is commensurate with the risks taken.
  • The client has access to our full network and benefits from a well-established team that has long-term experience and cooperation.
  • The interdisciplinary skill-set of our team allows the client to get in-house commercial, financial and technical development expertise.
  • The EIC team is able to provide a unique solution to solve client-specific issues within a short period of time. We can provide our resources for a defined, limited time period in order to complete a specific task. This delivers an economic solution for tasks without increasing the overhead costs.

History

  • In February 2002, EIC was founded by a group of former ABB executives. The team’s vision to support investors in their engagement in the energy sector has been persistently pursued on a day-to-day basis.
  • In June 2003, EIC launched the EIC Energy Infrastructure Fund, an open-ended investment fund, the first of its kind to emerge from a publicly listed investment company (EIC Electricity Investment Company).
  • In December 2006 (ahead of its time, five years prior to the announcement of the energy transition in Germany), the EIC Renewable Energy Fund was launched and successfully brought to the market.
  • In April 2008, EIC received the status of an authorized asset manager of collective investments and became supervised by the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority, “FINMA”. Following the sale of its fund business in September 2017, EIC waived the extension of the related status.
  • The roots in the ABB Financial Services Group facilitated the entry into the private equity business: Since 2005, EIC has engaged in various undertakings with renowned private equity energy infrastructure investors, such as Actis, Blackstone, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Swiss Life, and others.
  • In 2012, EIC founded PQ Energy, a platform to develop reserve power plants in Southern Germany. This initiative was initially backed by Blackstone funds and then taken over by a Copenhagen Infrastructure fund in 2018.
  • In September 2017, EIC sold its fund management business to Geneva-based asset manager de Pury Pictet Turrettini & Cie SA.
  • Since the sale of the fund business, the EIC focus is exclusively on supporting institutional investors in their undertaking of energy infrastructure investments.
